[#2301180]

Hi all,

I've just upgraded to the above and on my first ride I'm hearing a kinda 'buzzing' noise from the from rotor/brake, when braking hard. Buzzing doesn't really describe it I don't think, it's kinda like the sound a tyre makes when gripping under braking on a polished surface - make sense?

Anyway my question is - has anyone else experienced this?

Cheers..

Brill thanks Dick - would you happen to know what it is?

Thanks

Had something similar using normal Hope rotors, could even be felt as almost a judder when braking hard on tarmac. I put it down to the braking surface tapering off between the rotor's spokes, and it vanished when I swapped it for a Shimano rotor with a concentric braking surface.

Hi coatesy,

So do you think it was the saw-tooth part of the rotor, reacting to the pad?

Probably is, mine wasn't a saw tooth but i'd guess that any kind of uneven braking surface is going to create a vibration of some sort.Still getting a bit on the rear where the pads overlap the spokes by a small margin, will experiment with a Deore disc that has a deeper braking surface when I finally get around to it.

I think it is caused by the change in braking surface as the surface increases/decreases due to the shape change.

Fixed the front by driving over it with my car so now replaced with a v2 motor - all that was in stock.

It doesn't concern me though.

I'm pretty sure the noise you are hearing is the heated air escaping that is trapped between the pads as you brake, the larger the air space the louder the noise. Normal cross drilled rotors are quieter due to the small air space and more metal surface area in contact with the pad.

I had the same when I changed over.

That's great guys, you've put my mind at ease now as I thought I'd fitted them badly..

Thanks for your responses.

I get a judder at low speeds but its not an issue. If you get loads of noise I would look at the pads/spring are all located properly and the calipers are equalized?
