Hi All,
Looking to buy a new set of wheels and thought i had settled on the Hope Hoops - Pro2 on Stans Flow rims. Now looking on wiggle, they no longer stock front versions of these wheels and it got me thinking.
So whats the difference between the Pro 2's and Pro 3's, other than the odd disc mount? And are Hope going to discontinue the Pro 2 Hoops?!
Cheers

Try somewhere else, can't imagine they'd stop selling as they are popular.
Plenty of places to choose from. Good choice of rim, I got the same and haven't regretted it ๐
Not so much the lack of choice as CRC have them, although i can`t find the straight pull version of the Pro 2 wheels which would be my preference.
Don't the hope 3's have straight pull spokes as well - just like Mavic wheels
pro 2 - standard flange and 6 bolt mount
pro 3 - straight pull spoke flange and a 3 or 4 bolt (depending on XC or AM) disk mount
Weight is about the only different i can see on the outside - id think strength goes with that tbh but they aint broken on me yet !
But they do a straight pull Pro 2 now i thought. And it seems the Pro3 uses better bearngs, and the disc mount is stffer and lighter. They also supply Pro3 wheels with rotors, which is handy as i need to buy rotors too.
fair enough -visual comparison between 2 sets of wheels i have here.
i have pro3s and they rock ๐ I have pro 2s and they rock
although there is only one stan !
If you want Pro2s get Roger Musson to supply them
Winstanley's are the cheapest at the moment. I got a spare set through them, delivered next day too. Good service ๐
Pro 3's can't be converted to 20mm front axle as far as I'm aware, so there are apparently other differences then the spokes and disk mounts.
The Pro3-AM4 can be converted to 20mm (Adapters included with wheels), 15mm or QR but the Pro3-XC3 (only superlight XC rims so no Flows) can only do QR and 15mm.
The bearings are stainless steel which IMO is a big selling point, the Pro2 freehub seal is plastic and water easily gets through it (you can tell mid-ride when it is getting in as the freehub sound changes), sits inside the hub and rots the driveside hub bearing.
If you need rotors as well then the AM4's are a cracking deal. I managed to pinch flat so hard I went through the tyre (running Flow's tubeless) but the wheel and rim still remained perfectly true!
As Uplink said above Roger at Wheel Pro is great to deal with. I didnt know which rims or hubs to buy and didnt know if to have normal or straight pull spokes. Roger advised and then fitted the tubeless kits, checked the wheels and converted front to 20mm. Were also supplied with the sealent and arrived in less than a week.
Highly recommend.
Cheers guys, think it may have to be the Pro3-AM4's for me, the new bike is going to be sweet.
The only issue is that i'm in Oz so may have to stick with CRC and Wiggle or i'll pay a fortune in post!
