Have a set of hope hoops on one bike that have been wonderful . Now it's time for new wheels for another bike. Read recently in a review in What WTB/Mbuk that recent builds are less well built. Has any one had trouble with this? 29"we heels if that helps.
My 650b flows are super (so far).
Can't see why Hope but start putting less effort into their wheel builds really.
Got a link to the article out of interest?
No. My 26s have been flawless, just wanted to check, before I shell out for another set.
I've got a new pair of 26 inch Hope tech enduros. First ride: rear wheel out of true after 15 miles. LBS trued wheel. rode hard in Alps for a week. still true. they're round, they rotate and the tubeless set up was simple.
Forget what magazines say.
Wiggle reviews aren't complementary (for the 700c ones at least), although there's not a lot of them to judge
Myself and friends have had poorly built hope hoops but you can bet after it's been highlighted by a magazine, they've sorted it out now.
I'd still buy them but would keep an eye on them after the first few rides.
Hi,
Yeah had a 29 wheel that had a few loose spokes.
Earlier 26 wheels I had no issue with.
Would buy them again but just check before first ride.
Thanx,
Max
I had a 29er crest front and the spokes just kept coming loose so i replaced the nipples with pro-lock ones.
I had a set of Pro IIs on EN521's that lasted about two years before I went near them with a spoke key.
I've just bought a new pair on Flow EX, only had 5-6 rides and the rear is slightly out of true and one spoke came loose, I had a quick tweak with a spoke key (still slightly out of true) but no loose spokes.
I guess I'll keep an eye on it and bob it to my lbs if it gets worse.
I got some with 26" with shit bearings, sent them back to hope and they reckon they are fine.
Got a 650b set via Wicked Cycles which are fine.. Although they messed up my wheels and the sent j bend hubs.
So Wicked cycles got hope to build me the correct set.. flows on straight pull hubs, on a wednesday and then deliver them on a Saturday.
The plan was that the wrong set would be collected when the others were dropped off.
So another collection arranged for the Tuesday after bank holiday.
Not collected.
Another collection arranged for today, not collected.
Still got them...and not paid for them obviously.
First ride out on a brand new arch EX with pro 2 40t and after a long descent in Slovenia nearly every spoke in the rear wheel is loose.. Although all the hope hoops I have bought second hand have been great and never needed any truing.
Doesn't sound like Hopes quality control is doing a very good job with the wheels lately then?
Bought a set of 650b ArchEx's recently, Spent ages diagnosing random noises off the back end. In the end de-tensioned and re-tensioned all the spokes which sorted it out. Was evenly tensioned, but lower than hopes own specs on what it should be which may've been the cause. No other hope hoops I've had have had any issues.
My last pair of Hoops for my winter road bike (Pro III mono on Mavic Open Pro) were not particularly well built, with unbalanced spoke tension and poor vertical / lateral trueness on both, especially the front wheel.
Spent some time getting the wheels in proper shape on a wheel jig at work using a Park spoke tension meter, and they've been good as gold since ๐
Rear Mavic 521 on Pro II - bought online a while back and never touched. New'ish Tech Enduro front on Pro II evod, bought off the shelf. Couple of months in and seems fine
Update.
My spoke tension was poor so I got in touch with Hope, it turns out there was a faulty batch of nipples. I've returned both my wheels and waiting for Hopes verdict, hopefully I'll have them rebuilt with new nipples.
On a separate note, the rear bearings were also really rough after about 6 weeks so hopefully they'll be sorted too.
Just hope I get them back before the Lee Quarry Enduro ๐ฏ
