Anyone got any experience of the 24 spoke Pro 3 Hope Hoops? Thinking of buying a pair but I've never had a wheel with that few spokes! How tough are they? Is flex noticeable? I'm just under the recommended weight and I'd be using them for xc only. Thanks
I've not noticced any flex on mine, riding like a bull in a china shop in the Peak District. Seems really well built and only 880 grams.
I will be honest , I got a front one (straight pull) and went for Pro 2 SP on back. Just didnt trust it on the back. 6kg under weight limit but ride carbon hardtail and a bit hard on rear wheels.
Front is pretty light but I have ****tted the back one pretty bad a few times .Often wondered whether the Pro 3 would have folded but still hanker after one.
How did you do that?!
Got mine back in 08 with DT rims and used them on a Pace 405 - they were fine, possibly a bit too light for the way I ended up riding the bike though. Currently they have ZTR355 rims and are on my Giant Anthem.
I have'nt noticed any excess flex but they are probably due a new set of rims where the Pro2 sets of a similar age are fine. Personally I think the Pro2 straight pulls offer more adaptability, a choice of rims and cover all the popular axle types while being that bit tougher.

i had a crash whilst racing, but have had crashes before and never had this,
one thing to add, 24 hole stans rims are only available from Hope and they will only supply them through a dealer, despite everyone saying hope are "helpful" and "will sort you out" if you have a problem with their products,
i have also had problems with 24 spoked XT wheels, where Shimano do not supply any spares if anything goes wrong with them,
I've been running Hope Pro 3 24 spoke for over 2 years, all XC and racing. Been a faultless ride, only broke 1 spoke due to a stick, simply replaced. Still running perfectly true and nicely tentioned, based on this I would highly recommend them for normal/light XC.
I'd not bother. They're not hugely light, but a fair chunk more expensive than the stock ones. I'd either buy some standard Pro 2 Hope Hoops, or custom build something lighter with more standard parts.
FWIW I've built some (32h) A2Z hubs on Podium rims with Revolutions, 1246g with yellow tape/valves and under £300 at retail. Whilst I don't expect the hub longevity to be amazing they roll incredibly well (better than anything else I've tried), are cheap and extremey light. If you want a race set of wheels I can't recommend them highly enough!
I got Pro III SP XC (4.2d 24 spoke) and despite a lot of clumsy thrashing and dings in the rear (needing one new rim - another one due shortly) they've never tacoed or even gone out of true.
Seized bearings, broken pawl springs - thats another matter.
I'd echo the comment about the rims only being available via a Hope dealer.
I've got pro 3/ztr 355 24 spoke wheels (from roger musson) and they've been amazing. 2 years on various bikes. Rocky (peaks, lakes) trail centres and a bit of xc racing
they are still completely true and feel very light
pro3/355s front here, might not be uberlight but anyone who has ever picked up the wheel is amazed at the lightness. I use it on my FSer, gets battered about but not truly hammered. Not sure I'd have one on the reare, mind you the shimano I have on the rear is a 24 spoke, UST rim tho so heavier and stronger than a 355/crest I reckon.
I had an XT wheel for a few years bent the odd spoke from rock strikes, wore out a freehub, got replacements from my LBS no probs. What could you not get?i have also had problems with 24 spoked XT wheels, where Shimano do not supply any spares if anything goes wrong with them
the hubWhat could you not get?
