[Closed] Hope Headset reducer - advice needed before swinging hammer!

Hi
New frame, tapered headset, having to use standard steerer forks until funds allow upgrade, Fitted a Hope headset and purchased a Hope reducer, question is.....
does this replace the crown race on the steerer completely, or go on top of it?
I assume it completely replaces, but just thought i'd check as it seems a very snug fit on the steerer, especially after being used to the rather simpler split ring approach to crown races of the Hope head doctor, so before i got a bit vigorous with it thought I'd check.
