[#4797323]

Just looking at new cassette and chain, I normally get the Shimano HG50 with a SRAM 951.

Reading the Reviews on Merlin cycles, a few reviewers have said the HG50 can chew up an alloy Freehub like the Hope whereas an XT cassette won't as it has a carrier.

This is the first cassette I've looked at getting since having the Hope Wheel fitted. LBS put the wheel on for me as part of the haggling was free fitting ( lazy I know but saved me getting the Allen keys out ) & they didn't say anything about putting the original HG 50 on.

Can anyone advise if I'm going to do damage to my Freehub ?

Yes, it'll still chow into the freehub a little, but not as much.

Or, dont pedal as hard

Chain reaction were doing SRAM PG990s for just under £40. They have more cogs on the carrier, so less damage than an XT.
