Just put my summer posh wheels on. Even with summer treads they feel slow.
Compared to my deore wheels the hope bearings feel like there is some resistance there. The hopes have only done a summer. The front feels fine.
So who sells the best bearings if the hope ones aren't that good?
I took them down to my local bearing shop (yes, honestly. They measured them up, took the reference numbers and handed me a new set of stainless sealed bearings - about a tenner for all 5 rear bearing and I've had no problems. Having said that, the original ones supplied in my Hope Hoops ran so free that if left in the stand, the weight of the valve would always settle at the bottom. Tyres do make a HUGE difference to the rolling speed though.
No way is it your bearings if YOu can actually turn the axles by hand.
I think you're over thinking it and looking for a problem. Even if the seals are draggier than the shimano ones (which is likely), you're talking fractions of a watt otherwise you'd quickly melt the seals!
That's good news mr cynic. Bearings was the only thing I could think it could be. Will stick summer treads on winter wheels and see how that is.
You sure it is not your disk brakes that need re aligning? Not all hubs are made equal in regards to the position of the disk mount on the hub. Check you are not getting a little rub on the brakes as that will make it much draggier.
There's a big seal on the non drive side which has to be seated with the flat side out, and it has to be seated properly or it will drag as the clearance is around 0.5 mm
Brakes ok.
Must be the tyres then. Crossmarks for summer, ignitors for winter.
I just remember when I put on the ignitors last winter that they felt craggy compared to the crossmarks.
