Looking to fit some hope cranks to my bike, it's a 2016 kona exposif, so 73mm BB shell, and as the cranks are 30mm is there a few makes that do BB's for this, or is it only hope, just wondering as 85 quid for a BB seems a little steep!?

General consensus is that the Hopes last forever so fit and forget. That's a price I'd pay as a mechanical numpty. I've had them on two bikes for > 3 years each and they've been superb in the wet and testy Peak District, both of which were fitted after the OEM non-UK 'designed for warm and dry' BB fell to bits.

You could use an e13.

Don't use an E13.
Just for a Hope one. Although I think there's a Race Face one that will fit as well, but reports are they're only slightly less terrible than the E13.

I'd sell the cranks and buy some with a 24mm axle.

Hope 30mm bb - that’s all I’ve seen that’s fit for purpose.

This. I spec'd them on my last bike but this is one Hope product I've swapped out.

Was that the old cranks, or the latest version @Carlos?

Theyre not the latest ones. It was the set you need the specific Hope tools for

Ballache. Not surprised you got rid.

I presume the OP is on about the new ones though.

If not, I agree with your advice.

Putting a 30mm axle crank in a bottom bracket shell designed for something smaller has always struck me as being a daft idea.

I used a Race Face Cinch bb with hope cranks on my previous bike. Worked a treat.

Not sure if they come in a size to fit your frame though.

Rotor 30mm BB works and is cheap and OK quality

Be prepared for a massive ballache install and loads of creaking... Biggest load of over engineered crap I have ever put on a bike..

Strange. I found the install straightforward and mine were silent in use.

I plan getting a set of the new model soon once funds permit.

Mine are creak free too, install and remove is a faff but they're rock solid. Newer ones on the other bike are much less hassle.

Mine are smooth and silent. I don’t know what the fuss is about, it’s only 2 bolts to take them off.

I have the older non evo ones, not really heard much noise from them and they are pretty simple to install, removing isn't too hard but not really logical in terms of engineering.

I've ordered a new BB, hopefully it'll do the job for a while!

I run Raceface cranks (obeying the rule of only using Raceface stuff made from a single piece of aluminium - no moving parts/bearings/carbon) with Hope BSA30 bottom brackets on 3 bikes and it all works trouble free.

Just keep in mind that most BSA30 cups will require a new tool for fit and removal.

People keep saying what a ball ache removing the original cranks are, but realistically how often do you relive cranks?!?! Especially ones fitted to a Hope BB?

What are people doing?

And even if you do need to remove them, surely you'll be doing them in your garage/kitchen/solarium with your bike stand and tools in hand... literally a 5 minute job and it comes with all the tools required 🤷🏻‍♂️...

Not sure about the new hope cranks but the old ones were terrible.

Hideous over engineered design, prone to coming loose and I was lucky enough for the spline interface to crack as well.

Then the famous hope customer service did me proud by refusing to do anything because I'd lost my receipt from the year before.

Realistically, how can an organisation with supposed engineering skills "engineer" something as bad as that design?

It took them about 3 years to come up with it as well with all the prototypes.

In a world of lean, agile and doing what is needed, rather than over doing things... Hope failed spectacularly.

I take it all back, just fitting the hope BB and it now requires a specialist tool, i mean why would they use something off the shelf, or the BBT9, or mix their 'bespoke' crank tools to cover the BB as well, honestly, i doubt i will buy another hope item again after this debacle, they really aren't user friendly these days!

Threaded bb cups don't really need to be torqued accurately- I've fitted them with a rag and mole grips - works fine .. It does seem pretty lame all these proprietary tools brands are now introducing..
