Is there a difference between front and rear tech brakes, other than hose length? I.e. could I buy two rear brakes and just shorten the hose?

That's what I do. Order two rears, fit Goodridge hose because I prefer the colour, then have two long lengths of hose as spares.

they can be run on both sides, it's the "race" levers that are handed.
