Hope brake question

I have tech 3 e4's. My rear brake is sticking on the disc - it's recently been caked in mud so I think the pistons just need a clean, I might put new pads in while I'm at it as the current ones are low. Just wondering do I need to remove the reservoir cap when pushing the pistons back into the caliper? Also should I back off the contact adjuster before pushing them in as I've been moving that in as the pads wear? Any other tips welcome. Cheers

Nope. You'll be able to push the pistons back in all the way unless you've added more brake fluid with the pistons pushed out at all.

Also should I back off the contact adjuster before pushing them in as I’ve been moving that in as the pads wear?

I would, you're effectively resetting the pistons so you're going to be wanting to adjust the bite point after you've done the piston alignment dance.

Brake sticking on is normally just a sticky piston, a clean and lube with some silicone lube as per hope's guide will do the trick.

Ok cheers, I'm sure I read somewhere (maybe not with hope) that it's best to crack the reservoir lid to avoid possible damage...?
Nope haven't topped up any fluid. Was going to clean pistons with ipa and then slightly coat them with brake fluid, but will use silicone spray if that's what they recommend.
Thanks

I wouldn’t worry about this with my Hope brakes but I’d always stick the bleed funnel on before touching my Shimanos for fear of fluid leaking out of bits of lever.

What has happened to me a couple of times on Hope E4 and X2 is the brake has locked on like a hand brake. I’ve had to prise the pads apart and finish my ride without using the (thankfully rear on both occasions) brake. This has only happened when I have let the pads get very low and I knew damned well I should already have changed them
