Hope brake mount help

[#13065852]

So I have a PM200 fork with a 220mm rotor.

In my mind I need to go +20mm so got a L mount.

However it doesn't quite fit. It fouls the rotor. I have since found out that L mount claims to work on 160PM - 180PM and for 180PM - 200PM, and there is a separate (P) adaptor for 200PM - 220PM.

I'm confused. Why does the +20mm for bracket L on 160PM and 180PM forks but not on 200PM. All are increasing by 20mm so why the different P braket?

Anyone here understand the difference?

I'll have to try and pick up the P bracket next week.

Hope handy adaptor chart and info.

For a quick fix, try some washers between the calliper and adaptor.

+1 for washers.

I have a supply of Hope washers from back in those IS mount days. They come in 0.6mm,1mm and 1.6mm sizes and are handy to have around. Just used a 1.6mm to pack up a mount with the same problem. 203 rotor, 200mm mount, a couple of washers and all is good.

Moving up from different sizes needs a different orientation of the caliper to make it all line up, it's the joys of having the mount on a slight offset to the axle. Basically as you go up a disc size the caliper has to rotate a certain amount to ensure the pads still sit on the rotor correctly.

Radial mounting would be so much easier, just add cylindrical spacers and an appropriate length of bolt but I've only seen that used on Hope's early HB frames. At least it's not like back in the early IS days where you had to play around with small shims and going up a disc size could mean buying a new caliper half and the resulting strip down and rebuild.

Not forgetting the new rotor sizes started off +5mm, then -5mm, and the 5 bolt then 6 bolt hubs. Fun days.

That was if your fork had a compatible disc mount.

Thanks for the input.

I thought it might be something to do with the disk getting bigger but still can't get my head round it.

Hope make 3 separate mounts all which appear to be +20mm.

They do mount K to go from 140 to 160

They do mount L to go from 160 to 180 or 180 to 200 ( how does this bracket work for 2 different sizes but 160 and 200 need there own mount)

And finally mount P does 200 to 220.

To confuse thing even further. GALFER do a mount called SB002ย  which they call +20 and they say it just adds 20mm to your fork and it doesn't make what rotor you use, as long as it's a 20mm increase they day it works.

That's the confusing bit.

I think I have a spare one in my shed - I'll check which type when I get home (Darley Dale - presuming from your user name that you are Matlock based?), but that won't be until tomorrow. Chances are it won't be the one you want, but I'll have a look anyway

I am indeed from matlock. It is the Hope P mount I need.

Thanks to relucantjumper for the explanation on radial mounting. I understand the issue I'm having now.

Out of curiosity, is the rotor catching at the back end of the caliper but clearing at the front.

Bike brake mounts are rather silly, Peter Verdone has a good page on it if you are bored
