Hi All,
Does anyone know anything about Hope Post-mount to IS-mount adapters?
I'm migrating my old mountainbike brakes (Hope Mono M4/Mini, IS-mount) to my new tourer/commuter (a Salsa Fargo, Post-mount on the chainstay). I'm having issues with the rear brake - this is an IS-mount Mono Mini for a 160mm rotor - I think it's caliper #3. After consulting with someone on the Hope technical line, I bought a HBSM20H adapter, expecting that I would need to upgrade 20mm to a 180mm rotor.
Now that I've fitted it, the rotor appears to be too small - in fact, there's about 10-12mm of clearance between the outside edge of the rotor and the gap in the caliper. That's pointing to a 200mm rotor, which will be slightly insane for a tourer rear brake!
Have I used the right adapter? There is also part HBRMHIS - this is described as converting "Hayes seatstay mount to international standard" but I can't find any more details than that. Is this the part I want, or will it make no difference? Should I just suck it up and get a 200mm rotor?
Any insights gratefully received...
Cheers - Adam.
Hayes seatstay mount is different again as far as I remember, caliper no 3 is for a 160mm disc on the rear,180mm with a HBSM20.So,I guess either you've not got a no 3( check on the lower inside mounting lug, though you did say it was running with a 160mm rear before?), or maybe your frame has an inbuilt +20 mounting for some reason, i'd check on Salsa's literature.
Hi coatesy,
Thanks for the info. It definitely used to be a 160mm rear IS (which I think definitely makes it a #3 caliper), so it *should* now be a 180mm, I agree. I'll contact Salsa.
