Hi, just wondering if anyone has any tips/pointers.
Race Evo E4 brakes. Front working nicely. Back lever seems to pull about 1cm further for same feel. End up getting too close to bars when slamming on the anchors.
Bled and re-bled following Hope instructions but not getting any change.
I have lever position wound in quite close to bars. Would winding out pre-bleeding make any difference?
Cheers.
I thought that Hope recommend winding BPC and Reach out so that the lever is at it's furthest point from the bars before bleeding. That's what I do anyway. That way the piston in the lever will be at it's wide open setting and you'll have more fluid in the circuit.
Centralizing the pads can make a huge difference, but you've probably done that already. I also like to bleed with the pistons *not quite* fully retracted.
BPC and reach wound fully out, made all the difference to mine
His race levers don't have BPC and winding the reach adjustment out won't make any difference to the result of bleeding as far as I can see, just maybe make it easier as there is more lever throw to pump the fluid through.
Not sure what to suggest, I'd maybe try the bleed with a smaller spacer between the pistons assuming some kind of spacer block is being used
Reverse bleed works for me
Thanks. Will try a reverse bleed and see if that helps.
This will happen if the calipers aren't centered over rotors, pistons compensate and lever travel increases.
You may also have air stuck in the system despite your best efforts, most likely lurking in the caliper. Try leaving the bike overnight with a ziptie holding the offending lever pulled right back to the bars.
Sounds odd (perhaps) but worked for me. Overnight the air in the system traveled back up into the cylinder (well, that's what I suspect happened). A quick top up and a nice firm lever was had.
The other thing I have tried is (over the weekend after replacing a hose on tech3/e4 combo) was making sure the caliper was at the same height as the lever when bleeding. It took all of 5mins to bleed and the lever was spot on from the outset.
Good luck!
So, tried the zip tie overnight and just left me with a lever with less power.
Reverse bled and big improvement. Then spent some time getting everything 100% centred and perfect.
Thanks everyone.
How are you reverse bleeding without pushing dot fluid everywhere? By reverse bleeding I assume you mean pushing fluid up from the caliper to the master by putting a syringe on the caliper?
perfect
Excellent, I have a set of E4 race so good to know what works.
Gotama - it does spill a bit. Just need to stop as soon as it starts to overflow. Not doing it in the kitchen so just needs a dilute and mop down after.
