I got a new Hope BB (stainless steel) fitted at Easter (at Skyline Cycles, Afan) and its already creaking so much I'm embarrassed to ride in public. Pretty annoying that its only lasted 3 months but these things happen, at least I can just change the bearings.... if only I knew what to change them with!

Problem is further compounded by the fact that I'm now back in Vancouver, where the few local shops I've contacted have no experience with Hope kit. "Hmmm, an Enduro bearing might fit?" does not fill me with confidence and make me want to leave my bike with them.

I've emailed Hope over the weekend but I'd like to make progress in the meantime, so does anyone know what bearings I need and are they a standard bearing that other manufacturers use? Can I mail order them from somewhere and do it myself? (Already have BB tool & 8mm hex, but from the video on the Hope website it looks like I'll need a bearing removal tool as well?).

Thanks!

Hasn't anyone serviced their Hope BB themselves?!

I'm not running a Hope bottom bracket myself but I'd be amazed if it wasn't a standard thin section metric, something like a 61805. Enduro make a max version and a high tollerance version I think. However, Hope use SKF and INA bearings so unless if we fitted with a rock and left in the sea for 3 months, there's a good chance it's just something neads a bit of a clean or a grease (or it could be the bearings, but that would normally sound rough rather than creaky). Bit of grease on threads, interfaces etc might do the trick. Normally the best way to solve a creak.

A quick call to Hope would confirm the bearing size/number - they're usually very helpful
If it has gone they'll no doubt repair it for you

Or get in touch with the Canadian distributors

Thanks both. I'll remove & clean up the bottom bracket and see if that fixes it then, maybe the bearings have some life left in them...
