[Closed] Hookless tyres and CO2

So, I've just gone road tubeless with some Zipp Firecrest 404s. The max tyre pressure allowed is 73 psi and if you exceed this by too much you blow the tyre of the rim, distorting the tyre.

So what do you do with punctures and CO2 inflation, anyone know what pressure a 12g CO2 cannister will get a 28mm tyre to?

I don't know what pressure you get from a can, but, with the CO2 inflators I've owned there's been no danger of overpressuring like that unless you mean to- it still takes enough time for the gas to fire in that you're in control and can stop when you want.

Though, I switched to a small pump after I went tubeless on the road, just because the one puncture I got didn't seal perfectly and wanted a little bit of air fairly often to get me home and CO2 just wasn't as good for that.

I was going to carry a mini pump, just thought I might need CO2 to re-seat the tyre in the event of deflation.

12g should be OK - I use 16g for normal road and MTB, but only in an emergency.

If it helps; according to the back of a pack of 16g CO2 cyclinders I picked up at the weekend a 28mm tyre will reach 87 psi.

Aren’t we supposed to be reducing our CO2 emissions? Can’t you just carry a pump?
In the words of Jim Royale “you lazy get”! Or gets!!

Yes, looks like a 12g won't be able to do too much damage. A 16g, at 87 psi, is well above the max pressure spec of 73 psi.

Can’t you just carry a pump?

It's in case you need the fast delivery to re-seat the tyre in the event of complete deflation, although I guess you could stick a tube in.

As for the CO2 in the can, that came from the atmosphere, so it's not adding to overall CO2 (although energy used to make the metal cannister probably comes from fossil fuels, so is adding to overall CO2).

The new tubeless road standard (although Stans etc has been doing it for ages on mountain bike rims).

I know all about hookless rims . After watching that video I've still never heard of hookless tyres .
