I really would like to do the HONC this year, but I haven't got an entry. Would it be OK if I just did the route on the day? I know it is not fair!!!

What would you do?

I think it'd be out of order. It takes a lot of organisation, part of which I would think is agreeing max nubers with police, council, insurance etc. If folks just start to turn and those numbers get bigger it may cause issues in the future.

If you're desperate to do it, just get the route and do it another week.

if it's on bridleways or byways they can't stop you, be a bit cheeky though, for more impact do it in the opposite direction to everyone else?

A few hangers-on isn't going to break it so do it. Salve your conscience by giving some money to charity.

IHN is right.

Don't tread on the toes of a great event.
