I see last year's HONC route was available online in advance, anyone know if the same thing's going to happen this year?
I emailed them last week and apprentley they will be publishing the gps routes in the week before the event
grahamh will be along at some point i suspect, but it is usually made available a little before the event, say a week or so.
Sunday or Monday..
Depending on when it gets uploaded.
Graham, is it waymarked again this year?
Yup, big yellow and black arrows..
Thanks all, look forward to checking it out.
Thanks for the link.
I downloaded the route to my Garmin 305 last year and only got half of it.
I think there's a setting somewhere on my 305 for the maximum number of waypoints. This event is the only time I ever follow a downloaded route, so I'm not familiar with how to do it.
I know I could RTFM, but can someone give me a quick guide on how to get the route from that map to my GPS so I can follow it on the day.
Download the GPX and then convert to a crs file using this converter http://www.gpsies.com/upload.do?uploadMode=convert
Then use Training Center to upload it to the GPS.
You then follow it using the training menu on the Edge.
That sounds more complicated than I was expecting.
I just downloaded the route as a GPX file direct to my 305 and got a screen message saying "Route Truncated".
I'm sure I've seen something somewhere about maximum number of waypoints being set to 200, but I can't find it now.
Isn't that all I need to alter ?

It isn't really.
Converted short and long course files for you here:

Anyone got a copy I can look at without a garmin...
I think I've got it. I was getting confused by Routes and Courses. I still don't know what the difference is, but I seem to have saved it as a course.
I've also saved it on to my Memory Map 3500, which was a challenge in itself. MM don't make it easy to transfer stuff from the device to the PC and vice versa.

A track is lot of points very close together like a breadcrumb trail, recorded as you are riding along usually.
A route is a list of way points used for navigation. There are much fewer points than a track, as you tend to only put waypoints where you need to make a turn.
A course is a route with time additional training information added. You can navigate a course - just ignore the speed information.

Thanks Geoff. I understand tracks as that's generally all I ever use my Garmin for, to record my rides. It's Routes and Courses that are new to me.
I might have a go at saving a previous commute as a Course and following it to work this week to familiarise myself with it all.

Good idea.
Trickdisco, cheers. I just clicked on the long one in error, nearly had kittens.
Well at least it's not too flat..............
Intermediate route: follow long route to around 45km then pick up last 20km of short route = ~65km.
Longer intermediate route: follow long route to tarmac @ 55.8km, turn left instead of right, then pick up end of short route.
Does the long route go clockwise or anti-clockwise as I can't tell?
