Electrifying the wheels and adding barbed wire to fend off dog attacks! recumbent riders are a nutty bunch.
bejesus!
Bloody mental. Absolutely bonkers.
People like that always are, it's something about recumbent riders, they feel the need to modify absolutely everything. In some ways it's great to see the kind of mad-British-inventor-in-a-shed, it other repsects they're as mad as a box of frogs and the bane of bike shops the world over as they bring their contraptions in with weird and wonderful requests for all kinds of strange parts.
We had a bike in the shop once that the guy had customised with a 3-sp Sturmey Archer hub which he'd (somehow) added a freehub to, he'd then run it with a 7sp cassette and a 3-ring chainset giving it 63 gears! ๐ฏ WTF?! Totally utterly bonkers but you've got to admire him for the engineering work that went into it!
I wouldn't want to ride one of those past an Irish farm dog, some of those fe**ers will attack anything that moves - but then I wouldn't want to ride a recumbent anyway.
Earlier in the year I was part of a queue of traffic slowly following a hand cranked one along a bendy road through W Sussex. The guy looked as if he was strapped in so maybe he'd lost the use of his legs, I can't see any other reason for it.
