not sure how, but the Hope bb on my Top Fuel has come loose, i am wondering about the plastic spacers that i had never bothered to concern my self before with.
Anyhow, the thread on the frame is not as good as it was, neither are the threads on the bottom bracket, it is holding now but i am not happy to torque it as tight as it needs.
I think the simplest solution would be to chase the threads and use a longer cupped bottom bracket. Does anyone make a long threaded bottom bracket?
anyone? looking it seems the saint bb might have longer cups than XT is this the case?
I had the same problem on my trek ex8, the drive side cup would come loose in the frame when riding. ( XT B/B set up tight etc.) This led to the threads in the frame becoming knacked too. I tried Lociting the BB in place, but the threads were just too worn adfter a while , even with new XT BB's placed in there.
Trek warranted the frame for me via my LBS, (gawd bless them!) and after I got the new frame, I started running a saint BB just to be on the safe side. AS with the XT BB, when you're running with 2 lots of BB spacers, thats about an extra 5 mm thread you're missing out on. Saint cups are a lot longer.
Yep saint cups and also raceface cups are much longer to allow use with a chainguide, would get your lbs to look at the frame and possibly install the bb so you know its all goin in correctly.
Campagnolo suggest using Loctite 222 for their BB cups.
