Hi, there seem to be two bridleway descents from Hollins Cross into Edale, via Harden Clough or via Backtor Farm. What are they like and which is best (in this case that means easiest)?

Thanks.

Well.. the lefthand one's an interesting maze of ditches and mini-ridges which puts a bit of a premium on planning your line. The righthand one's more of a nadgery ditch / toboggan run sort of thing and longer. I'd say the righthand one's easier in terms of line choice and less likely to leave someone poised on the edge of a biggish step by mistake.

I’ve only done the left hand one via Greenlands (the one going straight down to Hollins is a footpath I think). It was good fun as I recall but yes you did need to pick your line carefully and there are some decent sized steps, but nothing that isn’t rollable from recollection.

Hmmm. IMHO:

I've not been down Backtor, and in fact hadn't been down the other one till recently. But based on the fact that the other one is eminently rideable upwards and Backtor isn't, then I deduce that Backtor is steeper and harder.. could be wrong though.

The left hand descent is also amazing. I loved it because it was shallowish angled, swoppy and excellent fun. Do it.

Greenlands - easiest, decent.
Backtor - a bit harder, better unless muddy.

Thanks all. We did the Backtor (right hand) option yesterday and it was great. A bit of everything as a few people have said.
