Can I use brake fluid (mineral) bought from my mates motor factors in my Shimano XT brakes? I think it would certainly be cheaper, LBS wanted £8 for tiny little tube. I know global oil prices are on the up, but c'mon!!

Yes you can use LHM from you local motor factors.
Thats what we use in the workshop.
