The only time i've got in my rather crowded life at the moment is Sunday afternoon whilst the kids are asleep.

England will get bummed by the Germans anyway.

'bummed' is that a northern word for stuffed at the penalty shoot out ?
But there again it could be Ghana - are they any good at penalties ?

Sod it. I'm still doing a lap but I'll put a radio in my CamelBak. It's ages since I've been out so I'm not wasting the opportunity. I shall listen to England taking it up the bum as I'm taking it down the berm.

Opening the bike shed will be like opening and Egyptian tomb, but with more half empty GT85 tins in it.

No solo tent. All the camping is within 50m of the start/finish straight.

It was last time as well, wasn't it?

Yep. And the only person to use it was Mike, who kept his extensive wardrobe and beauty products in it.

If you could provide me with my own personal race prep area again, that would be appreciated 🙂

no I meant all the camping being within 50m of the start / finish straight.

Looking forward to the new shower block, a cold shower on friday night was not enough fun to warrant trying it again....

A Ragley TD1:SS I believe.

I expect a podium finish from you. As John Wayne said* "There's no point in having a ten gallon hat if you've only got a two pint head".

*He didn't. I made it up.

Today we have mostly been ordering several kilometres of tape, 300 rider numbers and pins and 200 laminating pouches for signs.

This event lark isn't not all champagne and page 3 girls.

Still need a few more entries to pay for all this crap.

By popular demand… a mid week preview ride

Wednesday 30th June, 6:00 pm, Waterdale entrance at the bottom of Clifton Road / Buckley Lane.

The nearest post code is M25 3HR. Follow Clifton Road about another ¾ of a mile all the way down to the bottom and meet at the gate on the right hand side next to the big wall and Recycling Facility (it was “The Tip” when I were a lad). Not the Waterdale gate 200m before this.

The preview ride was ace! Although I did end up hanging by my SPDs head first down a ravine and the only way out was for somebody to unclip me resulting in a comedy fall and back flip. 😀

Pictures?

Would have loved to have joined you, but I had to escort a lovely group of ladies around the bridleways of Calderdale.
I stayed at the back to make sure everyone was getting around safely, not because I'm old and slow with Barnesist tendencies, oh no.

Course looking good? - was wonderful when we rode it last Sunday, so nice to have a blast in the dry.

It was proper fast.

The berms and jumps are bedding in nicely, but I did attack the jump before the bridge with a little too much gusto. Falling off later on was inevitable.

Footpath closures paid for.

£225 gets you 6 and a half miles of Bury.

£1200 gets you 400m of Bolton. We are not using 400m of Bolton. We are running parallel to it about 6ft to one side for free.

Bury 🙂

Bolton 🙁

Confirming the DJ for the beer tent this evening.

Still places left. Don't be shy. www.hitthenorth.net

My friends have stupidly arranged to get married that day, and I am required to attend! Otherwise I would have been riding.
My mate Lil' T is riding and reckons he's going to win.
Hope its a sell out!

Day 245,432 in the Hit the North House.

Insurance certificate arrived.
British Cycling Race Commisaires booked.
Fantastic Lisa form British Cycling lined up to help out with sign in again (Thanks).

Have noticed that the number of cyclo cross riders has dropped from the winter events. Is 8 hours too tough? I would have thought that this would have been ideal training for the 3 Peaks. We don’t have the same gradient but time wise this is twice as long. Oh well…

Still places left. Maybe after the Singletrack Weekender things will pick up a bit more.

It's because they're scared of being beaten by an MTBer.

6 emergency medical technicians
1 ambulance
1 4x4

All booked at massive but necessary expense.

Please do not feel obliged to call on their services.

These guys are good BTW, so if anybody needs event first aid cover drop them a line.

A busy old couple of days in Hit the North land…

We lost our original DJ because we were skint.

We got another DJ who did the first HtN who will do us free in return for a bit of advice for some event that he is putting together next year.

We had our biggest preview ride yet.

We’ve finally bought our tape and numbers.

Arranged emergency 4x4 access.

Finalised medical cover.

Got the office trainee to make me 171 directional arrows.

Confirmed the size of the beer tent and electrical generator requirements.

…and all this for cock all money.

Well, we’re finally in profit so this stupid event isn’t going to cost us any money! Thanks to all those who signed up a few weeks ago when we really needed you. Thanks also to all those who have left it right to the last minute causing numerous sleepless nights and the further greying of what little hair we’ve got left. When we said we were OK we were still actually several hundred pounds short but we thought that we would risk it!

We’ve still got places left, but anybody who signs up after today will get a punch in the chops off this lady because of the stress that you have put us through.

Will there be food available after the race is over this time? At HTN 1 I was saved from starvation by some friendly folks camped next to me.

Food will be available from Friday evening.

We're using this lot again and they are ace. Don't bother bringing your own stuff. Buy it all on site.

The beer tent will be open from friday evening too.
