Hello,

Has anyone done this? If so who did you go with? There is a group of 4 or 5 of us who fancies a week in the alp's to do a couple of the climbs, l'alpe d'huez & ventoux. We'd want to take bikes too of course.

Has anyone done this or is it madness.. I'm guessing it'll be about 10-12hours from Leeds.

Cheers.
Andy

Most don't like you to take them out of the country and if you want to share the driving then the insurance add ons start to add up.

Europcar always worked out cheapest when I have hired a van in this country and if you tell them you are going to cheer on Tommy V then they might cut you a deal ๐Ÿ™‚

Adam who manages Enterprise in Hunslet is a good bloke and will tell you what the best way to do it is. Don't mention me though, I blew up one of their brand new Nissan vans coming back from Llandegla last winter...

How about buy a second hand one, get a months insurance, good breakdown cover and then sell it when you get back. Haggle hard enough and it won't have deprecated at all.

P.S about 15 hours from Leeds to Chamonix in my car last year. Cruise control at 130kph all the way...

I rented a caravelle from local vw rental. Took the back seat out.
5 riders and 5 bikes happily up to fort bill.
Enquired about taking a van abroad but no rental companies were willing.
Perhaps a people carrier or something like that.
