Went for a great walk today up in the hills, 6' drifts in places. We were looking at all the tracks left by various animals. Saw fox, rabbit, LARGE dog tracks (gulp!) but when my lad asked me about the squirrels and we looked, couldn't see any and wondered if they hibernated. Also passed what I know is an area frequented by badgers, but no tracks. Do badgers also hibernate? Thanks.

I wish I could hibernate - you get to eat for a few months until you're really fat then have a looooong nap

Nope they don't hibernate. Cat ate one today, well its head anyway.

Funnily enough I've just noticed some squirrel tracks left in the snow in the garden over the course of today amongst last night's fox prints. Squirrels don't hibernate - that's why they do all that burying of food: for the winter.

(This is based on urban squirrels though - sly little barstewards.)
