Hoping to have a crack at helvellyn on sunday and was wondering which way would be best.We were thinking of starting in glenridding,down to grisedale tarn,dollywaggon pike,nethermost pike then up to helvellyn.When we get to sticks pass were undecided weather to carry on to do the dods and high row then coming out at the edge of ullswater and back to glenridding.Or at sticks pass go via greenside to glenridding.If anybody has any other routes we're all ears.

Up Kepple Cove, in-out summit, down Sticks (or keep going over Dodds to Coach Rd)
I've done 6 of the 7* ways up (barring Sticks West). Best is Matterdale Common (from the Coach Road), 2nd best Sticks East, 3rd best Grisedale Valley, 4th Great Tongue, the others too ghastly to mention (OK, Whythburn, Thirlspot). Up Dollywaggon is horrible but doesn't last (quite) long enough for suicide to seem preferable
as for down I'm torn - going up my preferred way more or less mandates Dollywaggon & Grisdale, which are very tough going, and you miss the exciting Lower Man descent. I find Kepple Cove dull, but suspect although I've been told Greenside is mostly rideable - that person is a famous fibber.

Go down this path. Epically good, but quite tech at the top with lots of steps. The bottom bit has more chicken lines but just drop the rock stuff - it's ace.

How recently has anyone been down Dollywagon? I think I heard they were doing work on the lower section but I could be wrong. Last time I did it there were steps down to the tarn then nice rockiness from there for a while.
Sorry i havn't replied to your suggestions (bloody work :evil:)Setting off tomorrow and we've decieded to do this route:
Start in glenridding,follow the road along the side of ullswater.Then join the old coach road ,along the dods to sticks pass,upto helvellyn then retrace our tyres back to sticks pass.From there back to glenridding.Looking forward to it :D.
