[Closed] Help with Front Hope Pr 2 Bearings
Front bearing on my Hope Pro 2 hub is feeling a little use and think after 3 years of no maintenance it needs replacing.
Done a search and looks like people advise on going for Enduro bearings. Do i go for the 6804 2RS or the 61804 2RS - is there any difference between the two other than them being sealed?
Tracked them down and can get them from BETD for around £12 for the normal and £17 for the sealed - is the latter worth the extra £5?
Also for changing the bearings over am i OK with using sockets and a screwdriver or should i get something better suited?
try contacting kaesae on here for bearings. sockets and screw driver are just fine
there is also a slight sideways play in the wheel.........will replacing the bearings help in reducing that?
Should do, 2RS actually means they have 2 rubber seals, and for reasons nobody has explained, 6804 and 61804 are both the same bearing size.
2nd kaesae - very helpful to me this week. Good prices, knows his stuff.
61804 is the width or thickness of the bearing, for example 6001 2rs is also known as 61001 2rs 8mm thick or in width 63001 2rs is the exact same bearing however it is 12mm thick or in width.
However most people will simply refer to it as a 6001 2rs and miss out the 1 after the 6, in the MTB industry those numbers and missing out spaces like 6082rs for 608 2rs is a good way of telling people the bearing sizes but not telling them 😯
Makes it harder for smart arse companies like mine to come along and reproduce loads of bearing kits 😀 it also means it's harder for average riders to source their own bearings.
Before I forget, if anyone needs a hand fixing something, I'm in!
Yup I'll need some pro II bearings in the next few weeks I'll give you a shout
i emailed you a few days back kaesae
😳 Just bought some proII rear bearings from Merlin
Merlin probably stock hope direct replacement bearings, so will be good quality. Merlin is a cool shop I wouldn't have any problems giving them money. Have you installed the bearings yet?
Ralph did I respond to your email? I've been a bit busy lately!
no you didn't - rear pro 2 bearings

Hey Rob, sorry about that, I have an email on the 22nd from you, I've had a rough week and I feel terrible.
I will go and answer your email now, don't worry I'M NORMALY GOOD WITH MY EMAILS, ****ing caps lock! 😯
My bearings are the exact same quality as hopes but mines also have a 100% pregrease, I call this weather proofing. It means that the bearings will not suffer from internal rusting.
Basically I remove the old grease and install a grease that I found to be the best one for this application, I tested about 13 different kinds of grease.
This was the one I found lasted the longest, was the thickest without causing drag and was also water proof and had a few other characteristics that I needed.
That's it, I'm off! hopefully that made sense, if not I'll come back later tonight when I'm drunk and half the forum is also drunk and will then be able to explain it better 😀
Thanks for the link kaesae - yes they are proper Hope's and as always came very quickly. 3rd time doing this now, so should put the pawls back in the right way around this time!
