[#4820195]

Hello all,

Got a 2012 Giant Seek 1 hybrid.

Bought a Shimano M442 Square Taper Chainset off CRC which I don't think comes with a BB.

The bike currently has no chainset, so don't have anything for reference

So im currently confused by the various axle length which will effect chainline.

Which one?

Thanks in advance,

Alan.

It'll come with an instruction sheet, which should list suitable BB sizes. You may also be able to pull up some details on shimanotechdocs.
Edit- techdocs suggest 118mm or 123mm depending on whether you want a 47.5mm or a 50mm chainline.

Thanks for the reply.

Not sure which I would want.......

Gonna run it 1 x 9 if that makes any difference?

IS it a 68 or 73 shell?

Personally, i'd prefer the shorter option, will give a better chainline in the lower gears, and be less likely to drop the chain at the rear when you back pedal in them.

Hello again,

Now decided to go single speed, using a DMR kit.

My lbs said they have a 122.5mm bb - think im gonna go for that.

Doubt it'd make a difference now due to being able to space the rear cog out with spacers.

Cheers,

Alan.
