Removed my XTR cranks a few weeks ago and the Shimano TLFC35 tool is stuck in the left crank.
Any useful tips for removal. Heat it, cool it etc?
CR want £120 for a new one and that aint happening!!
screw it the correct way? it's a left hand thread...
Put the crank back on and put an Allan key through the hole in side of the tool and lever it off
I have been turning it the correct way, but thanks for checking!
Khani- that's a non-starter or I'll ruin the crank.
Anyone know any magic?
Alu will expand further and faster than the steel tool if heated gently, it may help. I'm not sure how that tool works though, so can't be sure, but if it's steel inside the alu threaded outer, heat should help, even just in the oven set to ~50c.
What Khani said.
I have a similar problem, looks like the oven option for me
That hole in the side is for unscrewing it if the threads don't let it go easily. Did you screw it in with that? It should just be hand tight...
Maybe heat it up in a saucepan of boiling water and try again.
Sorry Khani- misread your post.
I used the holes through the tool to (over)tighten in the first place to avoid any potential
thread strippage on removal. Doh!
Will try adding some heat...
Try soaking in wd40 overnite, put the crank in a vice with some cardboard to protect it then put a screwdriver all the way through the tool and give the driver a crack with a hammer to break the bond then try to unscrew it
forgot to say, use an old screwdriver because it will probably nacker it
