I've been cycling for years. Commute 7 miles each way daily. Yet the end of last year I started to get a niggly knee pain so (as I have very flat feet) started to use some orthotics in order to try to relieve the pressure from me knee when walking/riding.

Anyway, in January I began working from home so stopped the commute but continued to use orthotics on a day-to-day basis. Last week I started a new role and re-started the commute to work...

The first day went ok, but I noticed a small amount of pain along the bottom of my feet and just put it down to a couple of months out of the saddle. Since then it's getting progressively worse, especially on climbs - I'm now at the point where I can hardly stand on my left foot and have agonising pain along the outside/bottom of it.

I'm now not sure what to do - do I ditch the orthotics and risk the return of the knee pain, or stick with them and try to work out how to combat this new foot pain?

I tried moving my cleats back in position last night, and felt that made a small difference today. Less pain, but it was still there - however felt like less able to get power through the stroke. So may have to move forward a little.

A bike fit is a bit out of the question as I can't really afford it.
