[#4928417]

A female friend is hell bent on buying a Claude Butler road bike which should be about £500.

Something deep inside tells me this is wrong (I know nothing about road bikes but have seen some modern Claude Butler bikes...) and that there must be something vaguely rideable and fun for NO MORE than £500 out there.
I think she would like a new bike, are there any good websites that have out of date models for example?
Or a proper 2nd hand bargain...she's about 5'7".

Thanks

It seems that the budget roadbike of choice is the Decathlon Triban 3 - is about £370 I think. Carbon fork.Gets great reviews.

If your new to cycling makes sense to buy new preferably an LBS. They are much of a muchness at any price point, doesn't mean anything just because it has a CB sticker on it.

Defy looks good mind.

Merida do a model called the Ride Lite 88, with a butted ally frame, carbon fork and much lighter wheels and components than on those Claud Butler's, as well as proper 8spd STI's too. It's a penny under £500, and well worth it.

Though for £500, you can pick some real beauties up 2nd hand!

Definitely get her to Decathlon if you can, their budget bikes, especially road bikes, are outstanding.
