[#4519347]

I'll be in Hale Saturday morning, does any body know of any decent trails near by?

I am without a car so will have to ride there. At the moment i'm resigned to sipping on over-priced coffee all morning...

Thanks in advance.

I used to live there when I was little - isn't it all flat round there?

Good road riding from Hale out onto the cheshire plan. If you have no car and want off road trails then get the train in to Manchester and out to the hills - if time is limited then you may struggle to get a ride, sorry

Not the most exciting place for MTB'ing but if you just wanted some fresh air and spin, head over to Tatton Park, there's plenty grassy tracks to get lost on. Go spot a Deer or two and enjoy your over priced coffee mid-ride amongst the Barbour jackets of Knutsford.

Tatton has a place that can be quite fun on a mtb, about here

As for Hale, the Trans Pennine Trail is nearish for some flat track milage.

Or pack the mtb and ride Macc Forest as per Issue 77... http://singletrackworld.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/singletrack-issue-77-extras-macclesfield-forest-route-guide/

nbt, no - as per my original post - i *don't* have a car....

Given that Macc ride would be worthwhile, I could get the train to Stockport and then to Macc (about 40mins)

Iain1775 - YES! I'll have a look into that. Do you know if it's any good?

yeah was gonna say if you're go over the car n fiddle why on earth would you want to do it on a road bike? If you're short of time get the train to mac and ride up through the forest starting the leather smithy arms, take the track upwards, with the pub on your left straight in front and to the left, climb climc climb, after a mile or so of hill take a track through a gate to the left, climb climb climb, stay on main track with no deviations till you come out of the forest to a tarmac road, turn right, when the forest ends there's another track turning to the right, go down there, awesome bit of downhill, come out at the chapel, go past the chapel in front (off road, on grass and dirt) and prepare for a gnarly bit of stone strewn downhill V steep, when you come out of there, turn left come to a Junction, turn right then climb climb to the cat n fiddle. There's another bit of off road directly opposite the pub leading over the moor, which is pretty fast. After that there's load of off road stuff but it would take long!!

or if you want to go back to the station and go round mac forest, when you come down to the chapel go straight on on road and that'll take you to the corener of the forest where the other track starts that goes over the top, great ride but all fire road really.

Ok, just wondering - are you aware it's then a ride out from Macc station (uphill) to the start point of that ride. That's going to take you another half an hour or so. Looks like trains to Marple / New Mills from Hale are not well timed, was going to suggest that as the rides start closer to the railway

It's probably easier to get to Edale on the train, then you're right in the middle of Peaky goodness.

In fact I think the Marple Riders are out in the peak on Saturday - nbt or martynS will likely know more!

I'm not out, got a bad back. Think Martyn's riding. Takes ages on the train from hale though, as above

If riding from Macc station go straight up Buxton road then on to Buxton old road to get up to Teggs nose carpark. It's a more direct route although all up hill. Should only take 15-20 mins at most.

In the second video @ the gate around 2.50 turn right and climb up to charity lane as mentioned above for more rocky down hill goodness.
