[#1418460]

Either the guy in the video on the hope website is Hercules, or I'm doing something wrong!
I simply cannot pull the freehub body off the hub in order to change the through axle...

Any tips??

Try getting the end cap of first before pulling the body off.

I did one for a mate a little while ago and the end cap was seized on.
A pair of grips clamped on both drive side and brake side and a twisting and pulling action eventualy got them off. The freehub comes of easy after that.

Both end caps are off!

Damn these lady fingers ๐Ÿ˜‰

Shall I soak it all in GT85 to penetrate any grease that may be sticking???

Put the cassette back on to get a better grip then.

Something must be seized as it is just a sliding fit. Put the cassette back on and give it a few taps from the back

I think (from looking on't net) that the bearing furthest out on the drive side (i.e. the one that hides behind the cassette lock ring) has seized to the axle.

Looking at the way it's set up, it appears that if it were to leave the freehub body on, and tap the axle through (from drive to non drive side) it will 'break the corrosion seal' allowing me to pull it all apart... no?

It is common for the steel bearing races to corrode onto the aluminium alloy axle. You may need to use a big hammer.

That would bring the main bearing out of the hub also

Protect teh end of the axle. I'd try tapping the freehub off first

yes use a hammer, I ended up with the axle removed from the hub with the freehub still attached. then had to knock the axle out of the freehub bearings. Once everything was dissasembled and cleaned the new freehub bearings were a sliding fit on the axle again.

Watching the Hope video again, there'll be no harm in knocking the axle through from drive -> non-drive, like he does on the video, with the free hub still on there. Once the axle is out, the free hub'll just fall off no doubt!

I'll do it tomorrow - too tired now!

Put cassette back on.
Stand on edges of wheel.
Put a couple of big screwdrivers under the cassette opposite each other.
Pull like ****.
Fall over backwards when freehub comes off.

So, i just ****tted the axle from DS to NDS and it all fell apart like a dream.

So there you go - if it's stuck, whack it with a hammer till it's fixed.

Job done!
