Is there something i should know about selling a Giant Hardtail?

Ive been trying to sell a XTC 2010 frame with BB and some other bits but don't seem to get any interest?

Is there no second hand market (not even one full ride) for second hand Giant hardtails?

It cost £345 brand new so i've been asking £300 with headset and BB, is that too much?

Or am i aiming too high price wise? Im selling due to being off the bike for 2 months and it was only bought in february.

Any help advice

Way too much. 50% of new price +/- a bit for condition. £200 tops would be my thought

Its brand new, only finished building up 2 weeks ago, stickers and protective sleeves still on it.

Its only been ridden once for about an hour so no marks rub chainslap etc.

its less than 2 months old.

Fair enough though i'll have to re-think.

its coz its not a steel hardtail, so its not 'in' round these parts

You can get em for £315 new, online (cyclestore or something)

So £300 is far too much for a frame that doesnt come with a warrenty

probably true titus. It is an excellent alu frame though so i thought someone might be interested.

It needs a good home to go to.

Oh fair enough, i thought the warrenty came with it because i had the receipt and the warranty booklet.

I had no idea you couldn't just give them the documents.

Cheers guys this is really helpful.

Looks like i had no idea.

**** knows, I always thought/heard on the net that the warrnety is generally non transferable. Orgininal owner only or something like that

probably right david, i'll just have to put it on at a lower price.

Probably should have asked on here first before posting the add.

It's second hand, so I would honestly take £150 for it. Else sling it on ebay, it'll probably go for more than you paid for it!

i just feel robbed having paid £300+ in february and it not being ridden more than once due to surgery.

It is in absolute mint condition.

But if i can only get £150 for it i'd rather keep it.

I hate ebay but might be worth a try.

cheers for the advice sobriety.

I know, it sucks. If I was in your position i'd keep it rather than sell.

Edit: Or strip the other bits off of it and sell them all as separates, you'll still get £150 odd for the frame, and the other bits should bring you close to the £200 mark that you want.

Ah well, i do love the frame.

300 was too much, 150 is too little, maybe 200-225 it sounds great, but not for me.. good luck.

sobriety has a point about splitting but I think his value is a bit low still, you have not tried it at the lower price yet..

It's brand new, but you've built it up and ridden it.

Riiiiiight.

i have offered it with just the BB, as its face and fitted and i don't have the tools to remove it. the store faced and fitted it when i bought it in february.

i'd be happy with 200 for the frame and BB. The headset came installed so i will leave that on.

Maybe i just have to admit defeat.

I have a 2005 sx-trail that's been ridden maybe ten times, as i moved from somewhere hilly to somewhere flat. I considered selling it in about 2007 (i've had it from new) saw what it'd be worth and decided that an expensive, bike shaped clothes horse was better value...

Breath i didn't mean brand new literally it was bought in february as the receipt shows and it was ridden once as stated.

I only used brand new when describing it on this thread not in the ad nor would i.

Yeah, i just thought with it being a 2010 frame someone might want it, fair enough if they don't though.

Pitty, I would need a Med/large. Although it probably saves me from a beating from the wife for "filling up the house with more bike stuff" 🙂

A good looking frame though.

Just thinking are you named on the receipt?...surely if its just a generic so and so's bike shop reciept for £325 the warantee would "transfer" how would Giant ever know if you took it back to another giant dealer that it wasn't you that purchased it?

Bought my Whyte at leisure lakes had the bearings replaced at the edge, I had proof of purchase but didn't prove I was the person on the owners manual, actual till receipt proves somebody bought it on a set date that's all?

With ebay fees and paypal fees they'll take 15%. You'll need >170pds to make it worthwhile.

The warranty is with the retailer, not the manufacturer / importer. Some shops will deal with warranty issues on stuff you didn't buy from them, though - maybe it depends on your relationship with the shop. Maybe the manufacturer / importer requires that all authorised dealers cater for warranty issues regardless of the actual shop that sold the item? Maybe not though....

cheers guys. if no one wants it then no one wants it, it's a brilliant light trail/race frame so i'll try the bay and if not it will become a vey expensive clothes frame.

Cheers for all the help.

nbt you sure about that...if so why do you always need to send stuff off "to see what the importer says" when I cracked my whyte frame it was ATB Sales that sent a new one!

Warranties are with the manfacturer via distributor, usual SOGA etc applies to contract with retailer - 2 different things.

Mosey, you've had no luck selling it, you must have an idea that this is because it is priced at more than people consider it is worth. Aren't you abusing the forum somewhat by essentially putting a for sale thread on the bike forum?

SHould have said in the first instance - of course the manufacturer will deal with it eventually, but your first port of call is the place you bought it.
