I'm pretty content with my CAAD10 but "there must be something better out there" thought has got to me.
Current ideas:
Specialised E5 Allez. I like nice alu frames, it's got nice tech and brand kudos. Probably not a bike for life.
Kinesis Aithein. As above but better value and an underdog.
Ritchey Logic. I had one before and loved the ride but not the weight. Possible bike for life if I can resolve that debate.
Cannondale Supersix evo. Test ride and looks make it the favourite, BB30 and price the downsides.
Just thinking aloud, any (non Di2) thoughts welcome...

why change one dull mid-range mainstream brand for another similar dull mid-range mainstream brand?
unless the new frame rides better, looks unique (custom paint maybe) and has a certain pride of ownership whats the point in changing?

Sarto will build the frames specifically for you and you can have whatever paint job you want.

I have a Kinesis Aithein in sweet orange colour in the work stand at the moment. Building it up with a new 105 groupset.
The black groupset is setting off that orange frame really nicely. It looks amazing! None of the pictures of similar builds on the web quite do the bright orange justice!
Don't know that it would be better than the CAAD though.

Volare 853 with matching Enve carbon forks, 675 quid at Paul Milnes. See eBay. And please buy the 54 so I can delete it from my watch list.

‘ordinary’ road bikes are fine for U.K> roads. having ridden flanders and roubaix pavé on a road bike with sub 1500g DT wheels i can’t say the U.K’s roads warrant anything more ‘sturdy'

Bregante, it was £750 on Friday. And if you buy with CC 'off eBay' they throw in a 40 quid headset.

I wanted an Evo but couldn't justify the price (and watched a clubmate's get written off in a low speed training crash, rear triangle torn off), looked for a s/h CAAD10 but they hold their prices seemingly, so ordered a FM066 from China. Same angles as the 'dales, loses out on stiffness to my Pegoretti, but has a great ride quality and built up into a 6.3kg racebike without any crazy expensive parts. Worth a look? FWIW my Pego is still sitting waiting to be built - I'm enjoying the Chinese bike too much!

You have obviously not ridden Roubaix. Though I guess that statement is as presumptuous as yours..

Isn't that about the same weight as the Ritchey? (I was looking at one myself recently)
Fag packet calculations, using pretty good stuff without specifically searching out ultra lightweight parts says it'll come in mid 7kgs.

Correct Bregante, but being OS it will have a harsh ride in comparison, when they could have given it a similar ride but less weight.
The Genesis is a race frame so stiffness will be the priority over comfort. The Ritchey is not so race focussed. I think the Equilibrium would be more equivalent to the Ritchey??
modern well built oversize steel ‘race’ frames are not bone shakers though, the idea is you get the stiffness to make a responsive frame that isn’t noodly yet have the ride it all day comfort.
as for the weight? anything under 8kg with decent wheels will ride light and not feel like you are dragging it around imho.
What's this about the Volare, was it a good report?
