The choice (within her limited budget) from several lbs's (in South Africa) is:

Trek 3500 (7 speed, SR Suntour M-2025 w/coil spring, 63mm, bi-axial down tube):

Trek 3700 (7 speed, SR Suntour SF8 XCT V2 w/coil spring, preload, 80mm, bi-oval down tube, sealed headset):

Giant Rock (7 speed, Suntour M-2000 63mm travel):

Raleigh Sahara (8 Speed, Suntour XCT with Lockout 75mm):

Carerra Vulcan ladies brilliant bike for the money we got one for £219 including a free service. My mrs loved hers but she smashed it to bits after 2 years hard use.
