Hi I cannot push the front mech cable out of the Shimano Deore shifter. I have removed the cover screw but the cable won't push out. Rear mech cable came out fine. The Deores are 2014 vintage if that makes any difference. I am not ready for 1 x just yet. Thanks.

Shifted to the lowest/first position on the shifter?

If you have a double chain set and the shifter has the little switch to change it between double and triple ?
Then that toggle needs to be set to triple to let you remove the cable
