Move onto a different diet, your metabolism has adjusted? (just a thought, REALLY not an expert, (try e-mailing that bloke who writes a bit of the health and fitness column in the comic, he knows his beans)).

Have you tried fish instead of meat.
I've just started that diet you sent and having some great results even though I'm not doing it fully yet as we have a cupboards and freezer full of bad stuff to use up.

Do you have pork too? That slow cooked pork and ginger was really nice with some greens and carrots

Do you/can you do any exercise at the moment?

I would have thought chicken and fish would be better for you in large quantities than red meat is.

Also,

Try eating a bit less.

I wish I could lose 3 stone :-/

Riding in the morning just on caffeine (pills ideally) is a great way to keep yourself going and to train the body to burn fat. So skip breakfast, have some caffeine, go for a ride, don't eat anything for the first 1.5-2 hours. Then have breakfast when you get back.

Good work on the 3 stone though.

If you're not gaining weight then I'd Just be happy that you've lost 3 stone, have made a lifestyle change and everything is heading in the right direction.

Spectacular weight loss is great but consistent downward trends are better.

Or to answer the question, yeah eat more chicken, it's 2 of my meals a day and im a skinny sod.

I haven't read all the thread but to keep it simple ( you ain't gonna like me I'm afraid) - its all down to calorific intake as you know.
Believe it or believe it not, the calories you are now taking in almost equal the calories you are burning! Which Is why you are now at a plateau. Pleeeeeease don't skip a meal - the body becomes fooled into 'starvation' thus starts to store fats in a different way. Regular feeds is good, just re jig your calorific intake.

Hope this helps and good luck

I went through same thing I lost a lot of weight reached a certain level then could not shift a pound I am fairly slim but I am skinny fat IMO . I have now started weight training and after 11 weeks can already see a huge diffirence ok my weight has gone up but still same size clothing. I think when you diet you lose a lot of mucle mass and by doing the weights increases it again and kicks the metabolism back up to where it should be. Not mention my bad back seems to of gone ๐Ÿ™‚

Well done for losing what you have!

Porridge n honey for breakfast, fish/chicken for dinner/tea and kettlebells.

Generally, stay away from red-meat refined carbs and sugars.

Replace with wholegrain rice and have with the chicken (breast)/fish .

I've been trying to loose excess flab whilst staying 'energised' and find Thai-food has worked a chuffin treat! Delicious too.

Keep yer chin up! ๐Ÿ˜€

@ton congratulations, impressive. In terms of weight loss how is the excersize programme, can you step that up a notch or two ? Are you training with a heart monitor so you can be accurate with your efforts ?

In terms of meat eating you could go to once a day or even every other day. In reality we didn't evolve to eat meat every day.

3st6lb is not insignificant weight loss already... Don't take this the wrong way mate, but I'd bet even fighting fit you're a big guy. Maybe you're plateauing cos your body is starting to find its natural weight? If I even lost a stone, I'd look like I was a Heroin addict, so don't kid yourself you've not done well already!

Have you tried using something like my fitness pal to get an idea of your carb, protein and fat intake it might give you a bit of a heads up on what to try.

Well done so far, as a dieting mountain biker you are faced with an odd situation. Obviously you unerstand the follwing:

Energy intake in + Energy spent = losing/maintaing/gaining weight depending.

Energy dense foods are a quick fix, but these tend to be less healthy. Wholefoods which have higher water and fibre content as well as lower glycaemic index will keep you feeling fuller for longer.

In short; less meat, more fruit/veg/whole grains (porridge, brown rice, wholemeal pasta, quinoa, cous cous etc). Processed fats and sugars need to be moderated and nothing should entirely be eliminated as you'll just want it more.

If you're carrying extra weight and always meet the energy demand you've used the weight's going to remain. Eat the same amount and ride more, or do the same amount and eat less.

Whatever you do, good luck with it!

early morning exercise driven by caffeine before and water during only, then a protein rich breakfast afterwards.

white meats, no skin.

good work on the success so far, dont give up! ๐Ÿ˜€

That might not be enough. You should be really hitting it on your day off - a proper binge. This stimulates your metabolism which makes you lose more weight the following week.

Give it a try ๐Ÿ™‚

Riding in the morning just on caffeine (pills ideally)

I think given tons medical history that might not be a good idea...

Personally, I'd change one thing for a period of time and see if that helps - maybe switching to fish for one of the two meat meals or soemthing - and see if that has an effect. Too much change too quickly will either fail or you'll be unable to identify what has worked.

haven't read the thread but have you tried turkey.

i remember a bbc diet program but thay had a british cycling nutritionist on there. she said that there are fat burning enzymes in turkey meat; i think you need to eat it at least threee times a week for it to work though.

chopped leg meat is a great replacement for lamb in curries stews etc. turkey breast is as good as chicken imo.

Great work Ton! It was your progress that motivated me to give the iDave a go, and like you I've dropped about 4 st and I'm getting near my target weight of 12st 7lbs.

I found the weight plummeted off me initially, then it's gone in little dips - it's taken me nearly 2 months to drop the last 14lbs of weight. Part of that was down to me being away on a residential with a group of kids for a week - food at the centre was okay, but very carb heavy, and it took me about another week when I got back to 'detox' and lose the constant desire to eat again.

One thing that's helped recently is doing a bit more reading about a low carb lifestyle - I think I'd forgotten some of the physiological processes that we're trying to make use of, and I find it much easier to eat properly when I have a clear idea of what I'm trying to get my body to do/not do.

I know you have some underlying health issues that limit the types of exercise you can do, so this may be a useless suggestion, but some of the reading I've been doing suggests that doing short bursts of resistance training to muscle exhaustion helps with developing insulin resistance, and tends to increase your body's resting metabolic rate. I've been using some swedish ball/dumbell routines at home which I'm finding are helping with overall muscle tone and definitely building strength again.

Overall, I'd say keep at it, and don't start changing things without being reasonably sure of about the underlying physiological processes at work.
