Finally fitted a new BB yesterday. Straight swap XT for XT. The old one was squeaking but I assumed that was just part of it dying.

However, first ride today with the new BB fitted and there's still a squeak. Process of elimination tells me it's something to do with the BB (me off the bike, chain off, turning the cranks without moving the pedals and the squeak is still there).

What have I missed?

Squeaking without load? Free spinning crank? New?

Very strange!

Try a drop of oil on your partner's earring.

Very strange but I had exactly the same thing. My BB was squeaking (well I thought it was) so I changed it before my ride on Sunday. and there is still a squeak, albeit not so pronounced. I reckon it might be my left pedal.

Possible: bikers around with excellent ears?

Winter-squeak only for those?
