Ok after another one of my magicshine batteries has died how difficult would it be to build my own, I can use a soldering iron etc. just need to know what parts to buy, the packs will be 7.4V based around 18650 cells.

Cheers, Geoff

The simplest approach would be to get a 2 cell battery holder of this fella: www.luminousdiy.com

And a couple of protected cells/charger off this fella: mtbbatteries.co.uk (or off ebay)

Or a 4 cell holder and wire them as two parallel pairs.

Or take your pick from these: http://bit.ly/hFTrTH (chargers listed on the same page) and fit a suitable plug.

Look at the last couple of pages of the 700 lumen diy thread and you'll see the 4x18650 holder I made with holders from blackcat in the same thread, he might have some holders left. I just soldered 2 2x18650 holders together to give 4 series, araldited them together and soldered a connector on and done. I ordered batteries from DX but it took about 5-6 weeks for delivery so you might want to try smudge on here for them from the UK.

Magicshine replacements are around £18 delivered from DX. Finding it difficult to justify building my own at that price. PCM, 4 cells, leads, waterproofing (ok so they didn't bother on the original...) - it adds up quick enough.

Worth it just for fun of course.
