what sort of helmet is it?

I think it's pretty safe to respray a full facer, as they're pretty thick fibreglass.

I wouldn't like to try on the shell of a standard lid though

It's a standard lid.

I could try to mask the holes with masking tape.

Depending on the quality, I think some have the shell taped on.

remove tape, respray, tape back on.

Don't use superglue, be careful with paint/solvent around the polystyrene.

The problem with respraying helmets is that the solvents in the paint and the fumes it gives off when drying attack the polystyrene in the helmet, and, I think, the bonding between the polystyrene and the shell.

So you might find the paint melts your lid.

It's really NOT A GOOD IDEA!! ๐Ÿ™‚

And what kind of dye should I use?

I'll use tape on polystyrene surfaces and spray only on the shell... I hope so. ๐Ÿ˜€

You can't see it when you are wearing it. Get over it or buy another one.

You sound like a bit of a bellend, therefore paint it pink!

Are polycarbonate shell helmets actually painted on the inside?? The shiny surface is actually the unpainted shiney outside surface fo the shell?

Don't spoil this - you think common sense and practicalities have any place in the potential destruction of safety equipment?

People respray motorbike helmets all the time... Though a lot of the companies that do that use water-based paints.

My 661's very ugly so I've thought about respraying but it'd be a total swine of a masking job so I'm putting it off.

Motorcycle helmet warranties then go pooof!

Stickers are the only option to maintain integrity.

It's really not worth wearing a painted cycle helmet. You may as well wear a sock puppet for the good it will do in a head vs rock incident.

I once coloured my helmet in with permanent marker when a bit tippsy for a laugh. I was trying to make a green one eye alien.

Yes they do- so what? Same applies for many bike frame warranties, but you don't assume that the solvent in the spray is melting steel ๐Ÿ˜‰

Absolute mince tbh. Done right, the helmet will be completely unaffected.

2nd instance.... if you respray-and you still dont like colour...you cant take it back to the shop in exchange ๐Ÿ˜ฅ
3rd instance...if you have a majour accident...you cant claim bugger all cos you have DEFACED the hemet,, ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ™„ ๐Ÿ‘ฟ
