What is out there?

I have a new bar mounted light, now just want something to strap to my lid to shed some light where I look . . . . I don't want to pay much - £30?

Anything out there that is that cheap – that does the job?

I will mention that though I do love the stuff DX turns out, the cheaper than cheap stuff tends to be a tad flakey, but easily fixable too. If you like the look of the bike lights, I'd suggest you spend another £10 ontop of your budget for a 'better' one.

DX 1200 lumen light with helmet bracket and an extra 1m extension cable.

Put the battery inside a couple of nitrile gloves, tied off with small cableties.

Job done.

are there any regular changeable battery lights that would cut the mustard? I'm assuming run times would be the trade off?

I have the earlier vesion of this rated at 120 lumen with 3x AAA primary batteries (much dimmer on 1.2v NiMH).
Mine runs approx 6 hours on full power.
Alkaline batteries are £1 for 6 at Poundland.

Just cable-tie it to your helmet.

Alpkit Gamma are a good cheap but decent head torch - they also come with a red LED on the battery cover on the rear. For £15, you can't really go wrong.

i have an xml torch made by yezl that is very good. runs off the 1805 cells. as you can get the cells and charger for not very much it's all good. 'regular' rechargeables aren't going to cut it without getting bulky - the drivers for the LEDs require the voltage headroom.

Cheers Rudedog . . i've gone for this, comes in handy for other applications too, plus they have camo which will match my helmet, . . . oooer!

Looking forward to testing this out.

As long as you've got a decent main light, they aren't shite.

It lets you see stuff away from the beam of your bar mounted light. It has a handy rear light built in. It only costs £15 - what is shite about that?

the beam reaches the ground - just, its not very bright. With a decent other light it just gets swallowed up

Mine has a fairly tight beam with not much flood yet has a surprisingly decent throw for such a small AAA powered torch. The tight spot makes it pretty limited as a main light but I've found it doesn't get swallowed by my P7 on the bars at all. Its more than adequate illuminating stuff outside and beyond the beam of my bar mounted light.

Yours sounds like its broken or has flat batteries (or unless they have changed the design recently).
