@the hivemind, looking for a helmet mount light, either with integral battery or with a battery I can stuff into my Camelback. Has to be bright enough for technical off road trails

Obvs cheaper the better but not really limited on price.

Will have something on the bars already.

Whatcha got ?

Joystick. I’ve got a Diablo, with a Sixpack on the bars, but I’d buy a Joystick next as the beam pattern is more focused,

Magcshine rn1500 - was about 40 quid from AliExpress, then a magcshine helmet mount, but any go pro mount would do as there is a go pro to Garmin quarter turn (that the light mounts to) already in the box.

Four4th scorch is a good option and not too pricey compared to others.

Four4th Scorch QR is a little minter.

2000lm and a good burn time.

I went for the second battery and am never without light.

Highly recomended.

If budget allows the Joystick is the ultimate helmet light IMO. All-in-one plus the mount is great.

Using Outbound Lighting Hangover - nice little unit and ordering from US pain free

Bike Helmet Lights -- Outbound Lighting

I use it in combination with their Trail Evo bar light

Evo Downhill Package (Evo & Hangover) -- Outbound Lighting

both have option for additional extra battery plug in.

I have a Solarstorm X2 from eBay bodged onto a GoPro mount.

Paired with one of these on the bars:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09159M66T

Both great on medium for most of the time. Switched to low sometimes on fireroad type stuff and high on descents.

I would recommend an integrated battery, the idea of carrying the battery pack in your bag seems ok until you actually do it for a bit. I now use an Exposure Joystick and I'm pleased I spent that bit more to get something quality.

I have both a 4fourth scorch and an exposure joystick. I tend to use the joystick more as although it has less lumens it gives a better spot which suits me.

Saying that I had great service from 4fourth a while back when they replaced the battery on my scorch. They also replaced the lense for free as it had a crack in. Oh and it also fits in the exposure helmet mount.

Oh also stealth ad, if anyone made me a half decent offer for the scorch I'd probably take it as I don't tend to use it much at all. New battery last Feb and used a handful of times since then.

Another Joystick user here.
Hassle free and just works.
Separate batteries are just a PITA.

Thanks all. Seems like there’s a broad consensus for the Joysticks. Integral battery would be my first choice so JS would work.
What is the minimum lumen mark ? 1000? 1500? 2000?

Joystick is around 1100 lumens now I think. I’ve got the Zenith from last year which is a crazy 2000 from memory but burn time on full beam is short. Joystick is very useable and arguably more usable in terms of run time.

Sofirn IF25A BLF Anduril - £25 - 35 quid. (aliexperess or amazon) add spare 21700 battery & the exposure helmet mount... I have two - extra one does as a lightweight bar light in these not quite dark yet conditions.

I'm running a Lezyne Lite Drive 1000.
Originally a bar mount, so you need a helmet adapter. Now they come with a Go Pro style helmet mount.
Not expensive & more than adequate once you switch it from commuter to race mode..

Why not just use a high quality headtorch on your helmet?

Something like a fenix hm65r-t - then you have an amazing light for Bikepacking camping, running, climbing, hiking, dog-walking...

If your helmet has a peak I'm guessing that headtorch would be sitting right on top of the peak so would give you a massive dead spot just where you need it.

I've also got a Joystick, well three joysticks to be precise. They're handy and good, but you'll need more than 1 to get good long run times.

* I appreciate that the definition of long run times is completely subjective. YMMV
