Left my helmets soaking in hot, soapy water whilst we had dinner. Now the shells have discoloured slightly, going slightly white. What's going on there then?
How hot? What soap?
I usually use a beaker.

Yeah there probably wasn't one..........because they're not meant to be washed merely wiped down with a damp cloth.
What you are sing is the liner de laminating from the outer shell.....so my advice is bin it, it's buggered!

The 7 year old helmet was on notice anyway but I'd be cheesed off if the newer one is knacked, though it looks it.
I'd be very wary of those helmets now.

I'd be tempted d to say anything so hot you can't keep your hand in would be bad. May upset any adhesives used. Fairy is pretty harsh as well. I normally go hand wash warm with some halo sports wash in there.

I have a Uvex XP-100 that does the same thing when I give it its annual cleaning (a quick dunk by hand in the wash). I believe that it is the matte clearcoat that goes a bit cloudy when wet. It goes back to normal when it dries.

Nope. The Xen is still discoloured. As its older than our kids I think it can go to the bin.
Was going to start off, by saying I haven't washed my helmet in years, but thought better of it.
I haven't washed my mine for years, and I live in quite a warm climate.
Had a sudden and unexpected downpour the other day, and the waster that dripped out was smelly and very salty tasting (was running down my face.)
I know take the velcro held bits on the inside out, for some gentle washing.

I agree, one quick wipe and I'm ready to be ridden again.
Quick slosh in wash basin with some shampoo after every ride or dunk it in the bath. Wouldn't leave it to soak though.
