Hello people. Been lurking for a while but thought i would introduce myself and say hello. Use to ride BMX (20" and cruiser) a long time back. Currently riding a 2010 standard Hardrock. I know it's not the best of bikes but until now, has served it's purpose.

Been looking at the Canyon Nerve AM range and have around £2000 to spend. At the moment the AM9 is reduced to £2200, so just above my budget. But I have also been looking at the AM 7 as I quite like the white details on the graphics, but with the reverb seatpost upgrade. Is the AM 9 going to give me a lot more bike than the 7 for the £500ish extra askinn price. Was also looking at the stealth black, then the bread knife states she likes the white/gold better. 🙄

ive got the am 8x and love it, because i wanted to go scram for a change, and the 2*10 with bash suited me better.

but i'd think you'll never notice the diffrence between the two your looking at. maybe the forks might help. if your on a tight bugget just get the 7 but if you have the extra cash buring a hole in the pocket splash out on the 9 for bragging rights 😉

which ever you pick i'm sure you'll love it 😆

My mate's got an AM.... the cheapest one, and its bloody fantastic.

If it was my money I'd go for the 8x, but that's because I would rather have X0 than XT, and your extra £500 also buys you a reverb and a few other tweaks. If you'd rather have Shimano, then the 7 is probably the best value.

I have the AM6 and think is a great bike. Watch the sizing though. I am 5 foot 10 and the medium is about right.

with the Fox fronts , the 9 has RLC, the 7 has Rl, so what's the missing "C" 😳

I am edging towards the 7, but the budget will allow for the AM 9, and the sound of bragging rights does sound nice 😉

I have the AM6 in medium, I'm 5'8 and I could have gone either way, but the small wasn't available. Med is fine though I am changing the stem to shorter.

If I'd had the extra money I'd have got the AM 8 for the Reverb and 2x10. As it is I am taking off the 42t chainring for a bash

I've got a Canyon time trial bike and it took an age to arrive because they were unable to cope with a sudden increase in demand. They kept me informed at every stage, offered me the chance to cancel and sent a very nice letter afterwards to say sorry (with a cool mini tool as a gift).

Despite the delay I was very impressed with how they handled it and it made me happy that any customer service issues would be dealt with well.

Adjustable low speed compression. Means you can set the fork up a little bit more to your liking, but TBH if you're tight on budget it's not a deal breaker.

I don't think i'm at the stage to understand all the features of the 9 over the 7, so it's looking more like the latter. Gives me some dosh for pads and pedals etc. Thanks for the advise so far people.

£500 difference? Get the 7 and spend the change going to some big hills to rag it to bits!

The AM 7 it is then. Hopefully I can get over the worry of ordering the wrong size as I feel I need the medium (175cm with 32" inside leg) but the on-line calculator is telling me a small.

Right, now onto pads, shoes, shorts....... (does this list ever end!)

I understood the C allowed you to alter the force needed to override the lockout? I had it once and never used it.

Which bash are you going for in exchange for the 44th ring, as I'm looking to do the same. I'm feed up with the chain dropping off when coming down rough tracks.

Cheers

Simon

Low speed compression is how the suspensions handles small bumps, it's a great setting to have.

Wrong
It's how it controls low speed hits. Small bump can still cause a high speed hit.

Hi everyone,

I'm also relatively new to the forum but as I have a Canyon, I thought I'd share my experiences. I've got a 2011 AM8 and it too is my first full suss. TBH it took a good few rides to get used to the extra travel having previously ridden a Zaskar with 100mm forks. Now though, I'm grinning more than ever and loving every ride. The Reverb post is a work of genius, and the bike feels so alive and communicative - the biggest limiting factor is by far my fitness!!

One thing to think about - in September Canyon have their end of season clearout. Sig up to their newsletter and you get 24 hours advanced sight of the sale pages to the general public and on most of the bikes you can save around 10% to 15%. Not much I know, but meant I was able to get the AM8 for £220 less than normal. If you're not desperate to buy it might be worth holing out for.

For me, the service was great, delivery was bang on their schedule and the bike was spot on straight out the box and has been flawless for 9 months. Just done a service on the forks (thanks Mojo for the kit and simple to follow video on how to do it) and it's all set for the next blast! Love it!!!

good to hear. I've got another 4 weeks to wait, so lucky I can borrow my brothers Intense FS for Afan in a weeks time. Can't wait to be honest and already fallen out of love the the Hardrock it's replacing.
