Good effort, I'm not familiar with the area but if a car can get up there then an ATcrane could have, which would have been cheaper unless by chance someone involved in the project happened to have a helicopter a their disposal.
Unecessary number of people up the tower to under the suspended load.
happened to have a helicopter a their disposal.
two helicopters in fact - one of them is filming
Thunderbird 3 has got its top back ๐
quite a risky thing to do for such a short height. Lots of videos of helicopters crashing doing that kind of thing.
All went smoothly though. I am guessing a crane would have trashed the surroundings too much?
yes darwen is too pretty and precious to be trashed so no expense was spared

Terrible music on that vid....
If you tried getting a bloody big crane up there, with the rain we've had recently, it would definitely sink
the locals would hold up the crane - nick the top and sell the lead! ๐
Also a crane is not cheap either and would have been there for all day - a helicopter for a shorter time
The tower has its bell end back, very phallic ๐
WEC who made and donated the dome own at least one helicopter.

Yeah, what earthly paradise do you live in, again?
easy there local boy...nothing against the place I once risked riding there and think I got way with it [ it a little slower than the locals ]
You are Bolton anyway and FWIW Chorley
Why was there a need for this?
the new dome or the ribbing?
Hmmm, I thought that part of Australia would be more arrid, urban and densely populated than that.
Aaaaaahhh...
That spire and the little gold angel with a trumpet in Chorley....
I was riding home from a big road ride, at about 80 miles, with 30 still to go. I'd been trying hard, so was a bit goosed. I kept seeing the spire, and the golden figure on the top, who is standing on a ball.
I was so knackered that I thought it must be a statue of a footballer, and spent 10 miles trying to work out which famous footballer came from Chorley...
Plumber - have you ever ridden down the steps inside the tower? I reckon they're do-able ๐

Do y'know what, I was contemplating that too last time we were up there!
hey Junkyard - you even have a tower in your neighborhood?
Are you suggesting there is no pride to be associated with having the largest mormon temple outside America
Binners
Steps inside the tower? Who knew?
You hold the camera and I'll do it
