Does anyone know safe is it to helicoil the pedal threads on a set of SLXs cranks, I'm hearing/reading various reports from 'it'll be stronger than when new' to 'don't it'll fail at some point and kill you'
If the general consensus is that its ok, anyone know of a place in the Edinburgh area that does it, and approx cost?

If properly done it should be stronger, not done it myself.
Should be fine, it's just a drill, tap and fit proceedure you could do yourself if you're careful or may cost you £20 to get a bloke in a small engineering firm to get done (it'll literally take them 15 minutes if they ahve the right size coils on hand).
FWIW most of the exhaust manifold, turbo and front half of my exhaust of my car is held on by helicoiled bolts in a light alu head.
can you get the correct helicoil thread for a crank arm
ah how about this
