My mate has cross threaded his pedal in his crank.....can this be fixed using helicoil?
Has anyone done it??

How bad? Easiest solution is usually to tap it from the back which will sort the thread out to a certain degree.
I've seen them helicoiled but never actually done it and personally wouldn't.

+1.....Yeah why is that...from what I've read...the helicoil can be a better fix
Having seen them fail a few times I'm not sure I want to be stood on one when it goes.
I looked into this when I stripped the pinch bolt on my Zee cranks. I couldn't find anyone local and came to the conclusion that it would be easier, and not too much more expensive, just to buy a new set of cranks (depending on the type and age of the old cranks) of course.
I managed to sell the old ones to someone who had the resources to do it for £40 so practically broke even (considering the cost of getting the helicoil work done).
I did an old fork, bought a kit from hardware store,it was surprisingly easy and held fine.
I looked into this ... not too much more expensive ... do it for £40

I've had good results from helicoiling before, original RS Boxxer pinch bolts used to be buggers for stripping so got quite handy at it.

Erm, you mis-read my post: It didn't cost £40 for them to heli-coil it, I sold the cranks for £40.
Sorry Mikey, confused by the £40 to break even comment.
Though you did say you considered buying another set of cranks as they're "not much more expensive" than helicoiling them - which is nuts IMO.
