I have a Santa Cruz LTc and it seems to like to go through lower DU bushes. Nothing crazy but probably two or three a year. I've heard mention of heavy duty DU bushes on here, what have people tried? What do people recommend?
BETD do strong bushes which when used with their Hula Hoop bushes seem to give a longer life.
My 2004 Enduro has one and seems to give better life than the std bushes / top hats.
If you haven't already, buy the proper tool (I got mine from BETD) and a pack of 10 bushings from wherever (Ebay?). Once you've done it a few times it takes five minutes. On the other hand if you're faffing with sockets etc it'll take ages.
The plastic bushes from BETD seem like a good idea but the cost of the initial outlay will buy you a lot of standard bushes.
Dont forget the tophats also wear, so the cost of those does add up.
Changing the eyelet bushes takes perhaps 10 minutes to do. It is a little faffy but not the end of the world to do it.
what size is the reducer? Enduro make needle bearings that replace the entire du reducer bush and reducer. betd also make them but only 8x22mm
I've used a needle bearing in the past on a Float, but I wasnt particularly happy with the sealing, which led to corrosion and inevitably play in the bearing. Plus the limited rotational movement means a bushing probably works was well.
TF Tuned do a heavy duty bush kit. They say they last 60% longer than normal ones. Just fitted some so time will tell.
won't use TF tuned for anything. The top hats have worn a bit now which prompted the idea of the entire heavy duty kit from BETD. Not massively keen on the idea of needle rollers, its a lot of load for a VPP I think. Reckon i'll give BETD a ring tomorrow. Easy enough to fit are they?
J Tech do some top quality heavy duty bushing kits
Yes they're a POP to fit.
Try the dp4 bushes from mbbearings harder wearing than du bushes
The BETD tool is just beautiful to use. Put tool in bush, hit with a hammer, turn it over and replace the bush, hit with hammer again. Such a simple yet elegant solution.
I too have the strong bearings from BETD in my 2004 Enduro - far better than the original one fitted.
My Zesty was going through lower eyelets and hardware every 2-3 months. I bought a heavy duty mount kit with a polymer eyelet from TF Tuned and 18 months later its still showing no signs of needing replacing. Highly recommend
