I need to take the headset out of my old frame so i can install it in a new frame but have never done it before so how do i go about getting it out without damaging either headset or frame?

Cheers

& a hammer to remove, then a headset press to fit new headset

OR - screwdriver, lump of wood and a hammer to "bodge" it

Traditional DIY technique is a big screw driver and hammer to drift it out.

I found this makes a mess of the headset in is a bit of a faff so I made a tool.

I bought a short length of 25mm diameter steel pipe and an end cap, cut the tube at a bout 12 inches and cut slots in the side to splay about half of it. Its a direct replication of the actual tool but cost me about 6 quid to make. Does the job admirably too.

Same, but I used copper (22mm?) Need to find somebody that'll sell you a short length though, else you'll end up with a whole pile of them to sell on the classifieds.

I accepted the waste on a 1m length, given the minimal cost of steel compared to copper.

I'll no doubt have a use for what's left at some point.

crowbar is a good fit and tends not to damage bottom of cup on removal
