[#3879926]

Currently looking for tapered headsets for a new build, does anyone have any alternative suggestions to the Hope Pick and mix? The cups i'm after are proving to be a tad hard to get hold of at the mo.

I need alternatives for:

Hope top cup (1 1.8 integrated)
Hope bottom cup E, 1.5 integrated, (55.9 dia)

Thanks!

Cane Creek? They do a headset finder on their site that'll list all the options from their range to fit.

I drew a blank on the Hope option for my new Covert last week. Though different cups to what you are after, I went for the Chris King in the end which seem to be around in abundance, just blooming pricey!
Still, they do a brown ano option which looks good against the matt black and isn't a million miles away from the Kashima finish.

Just out of interest, Johnny, why do you specifically want a headset that isn't a Hope?

I'm trying to get one the same dimensions as you for a Specialized Stumpjumper Carbon. Hope said they don't do one that will fit - you need to know the internal diameters of the headtube.
I'm probably going to have to go along the lines of getting a Specialized dealer to order one from Specialized UK, which will be a Cane Creek one and will inevitably cost me more money than if I could get it online.

brakes - try the headset finder on the CC site. All you need is make, model & year of bike and what sort of steerer your fork's got.

yeah, I've done that, but once it gives me the headset I need I can't find it for sale anywhere.

Look at Superstar, I was tempted by them before I managed to find a cane creek one locally.

relliott6879- i'd love a Hope headset, but they are less than easy to get hold of ATM.

Having looked through the CC website, and the SHIS info, i am pretty certain I need:

ZS44/28.6 ZS44/28.6, (1 1/8 steerer, Zerostack, 44mm headtube) top

ZS56/40 (1.5 inch steerer, Zerostack, 56mm headtube bore) bottom.

This is for a Yeti SB66 build, correct me if i'm wrong!?

-Also, the CC10 series cups are fairly sensibly priced. I just need to find some in stock now!!

Hope this helps for others.

Johnny

If you can't figure out ( or you are not very sure about)the cane creek site, email them the exact sizes of your fork steerer and headtube.
I found them very helpful, then I ordered it through my LBS ( who were also very helpful).

Use one of these

anyone used Wheelies.co.uk, they seem to have a good selection of Cane Creek headsets.

what do you mean?

I think the inference is one of unpatriotism on the grounds of buying a Far-Eastern produced, American branded headset rather than a UK designed and manufactured one, thus not contributing to the UK economy.

However...

If the guy needs a headset in a rush and Hope aren't readily available (I rang my LBS today to book mine in for having a Hope headset fitted, and they too said they'd have to order it in, fortunately I can wait a week or two.) then what's a man to do? Also, Johnny will presumably be buying his headset from a shop in the UK, using Pounds Sterling...

I was waiting for someone to point out I rode a Turner...

And I have a CK headset, after having three Hopes before that on various bikes.

In the case of the CK I regret it as their headset was clearly flawed as they didn't want to pay for the split-ring patent, so when the patent expired I had to pay more for that bit 🙁 Back to Hope for the next one.

Check ukbikestore - they had a for stock when I looked recently.

Jonny - if it's an HSC4 top you need from Hope, I've a 2nd hand one used only 3-4 times before I went to a fork with a 1.5 straight steerer..

Is it that one?

Isn't bottom cup E integral, which has cups with it, integrated would be the ones where the cups are built into the frame?

brakes
You need 1 1/8 45 x 45 degree campy for the top and 1.5 45x 45 for the bottom. i would suggest you try your spesh dealer, in the past i've had good prices for bearings off them. The top bearing is standard on loads of spesh stuff.

I've got a new unsed CC forty bottom bearing, thats a 1.5in intergrated IS52 for 52mm diameter headset with a1 1/8th crown race £23 posted

Cheers
Paul

But £23 for a new set of bearings thats a bargin off spesh.
